All of the visuals that I have created show the depressing reality of struggling with body ideals, body dysmorphia and issues surrounding food and eating disorders. I enjoy making feminist art and wanted to continue with that theme, but this time I wanted to make it a bit more visually intense and disturbing. I decided to go with body image/eating disorders to glitch because I think that the glitch aesthetic fits with body dysmorphia and body image issues. The glitches can represent how one cannot see themselves correctly because of their dysmorphia. In the still images, I wanted to show how one's relationship with food might change throughout their life. As a child, we are excited by food and we fully enjoy it without any guilt or repercussions. As life goes on, and we begin to be corrupted by society's ideals and beauty standards, food becomes much more complicated. Eventually, it takes over one's life, thoughts and feelings and leaves one feeling anxious, depressed, confused and upset. I wanted to portray confusion and stress over food and body image through glitches. The gifs take a more gruesome twist because I add surgery into the visuals which is literally tearing the body apart to change it to fit the standard. I continued these themes through the datamosh videos. I used a music video to mosh in the first video, and I strategically rearranged clips of the video to fit the gruesome food theme, and then I touched up the moshes in premier and added the audio back in to fit. The second video, I combined a music video that had images of surgery with a mashup video of a bunch of "sexy" female pop stars showing off their "perfect" bodies. I moshed these together and then fixed it in premier and added the original music video's song back in since the lyrics fit my theme.
