My name is Jess Vosseteig and I am from Fort Collins, Colorado. I have no memory of a specific time I started making art, it was always just something I enjoyed doing growing up and I have continued to pursue throughout my life. I love to create colorful illustrations and portraits. I only just recently became interested in digital art. While I have always admired digital art, I did not think I would enjoy making it since I have always loved traditional art. However, I have begun to do some art on Procreate which has quickly become a new favorite way for me to create. I have also done some drawing and collage in Photoshop from high school, but that is the extent of my digital art experience.
In high school, I took a lot of art classes including some painting, drawing, photography, digital art, and AP art, where I began discovering my love of illustration and my own style. I have continued to explore my passion for art in college and I am pursuing an Arts Degree with an emphasis in Drawing. I have exhibited my art in Denver and at a couple of Zine Fests in Colorado. I think of art as something unavoidable in life. Art is everywhere around us if we look, and creatives are the people that make our visual world possible. For me, creating art is just something I cannot avoid because it is how I relax and how I inspire myself and work through my creativity. I create a lot of portraiture because I love seeing each individual person's likeness and styles and translating that, whether it be realistically or stylized, or a bit of both. I am inspired by people's features, sense of style and individuality. I also find graphic design and color schemes very interesting. I am constantly consuming other people's art and other inspiration online, and that fuels my creativity for my own work.
Above are some examples of various images I might use for inspiration
My primary medium is digital illustration through the use of Procreate, my Ipad, and Apple Pencil. I also work traditionally with the use of Copic markers and pens on paper. I have been creating art traditionally for most of my life, but I have worked in the digital realm since 2019. I am deeply inspired by the uniqueness of individuals, female empowerment, the lgbtq+ community, bright color pallets, and fashion. With a minor in Women and Gender Studies, I blend my knowledge and passion for intersectional feminism, equality, and inclusivity with my love of art. I strive to marry these two passions in a positive and inclusive way that will inspire my audience and push societal constructs. Art is how I live my life day to day. I am either making art, thinking about new projects, or finding inspiration online. I create art for myself and for others to enjoy, and I hope to continue to do so in a professional setting in the future.
